Mount them side by side on a black background, with a 1" border all around. Utilize the elements and principles of good design we have discussed, as well as color values and harmonies. The subject can be anything you like, in any style you like and utilizing any media that you like (collage, colored pencil, watercolor, acrylic, oil, etc.). Your surface must be completely two-dimensional, nothing projecting off the surface of the substrate. Due 5/16-Abstract Concept (in class)- You will be given a word at random to illustrate. The word will be an abstract concept. You will create an illustration in colored pencils, paint or watercolors that illustrates this concept, or how you interpret this concept. The goal is clarity of communication with this assignment. Your audience should at least have some vague idea of what you are trying to communicate, the clearer the better. ___ Specifications: You may not use type or words of any kind in your illustration. You may use symbols, or images with symbolic meaning, provided that they assist in clearly communicating your concept. ___ Please paste your concept title you were given in class to the back of the project, and don't forget to add your name. Due 5/23- Painted Still Life FINAL (in class): you will create an original still-life painting composed of objects of your choice. The still life should contain at least five objects, no more than 10. Include both organic and inorganic materials. The design should be interesting and the composition harmonious. Incorporate positive and negative space in each, as well as some simulated texture (ex. crumpled paper), light and dark values, chiaroscuro. ___ You will also want to pay close attention to highlights and shadows, especially if you use multiple light sources - this will make or break your painting! Please attempt to render this still life as realistic as possible - no modernized stylization or simplification - paint the objects exactly as they are, paying close attention to detail. ___ The still life should appear with FOUR DIFFERENT color schemes incorporated within the same image. Each format should comprise roughly 1/4 of the composition.
